The only branch that matters

Bombs killed at least 60 people and wounded dozens in Iraq yesterday. Officials suspect the attacks are part of the ongoing sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shiites – members of different branches of Islam.

Most of the dead and wounded are civilians, many of whom were on a pilgrimage leading up to Arbaeen, one of the holiest days of the Shiite calendar.

Countrymen killing countrymen and hatred spread from one generation to the next.

Call us naïve to think the olive branch can be extended after so many years. But maybe if more people were naïve, the world would be a better place.
