Selling a dream
After last night’s Mega Millions draw, officials have announced that the largest jackpot in history – a whopping US$640 million – was won by three lucky ticket holders.
The jackpot became so substantial because no one had hit the grand prize for months – resulting in a massive accumulation of the prize pool.
Interestingly, though the odds of winning do not change with the size of the jackpot, the allure of such a large sum has brought in tickets sales of around US$1.5 billion.
We suppose it’s because, although no one realistically expects to win, a dollar for a chance to daydream for a few brief moments isn’t such a bad deal.
Congratulations to the 3 lucky winners.
