Cinderella… kind of

Talk about a political misstep. After a comedic series of events, protestors returned a shoe that was lost by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard the day before.

The incident began when protestors from the Aboriginal Tent Embassy surrounded a restaurant where Gillard was attending a function. The group was angry at the government’s remarks that the Embassy was “no longer relevant”.

During her escape, Gillard lost her right shoe, which was then auctioned on eBay to raise money for the Embassy – reaching A$2,000 before it was delisted.

Then the Embassy proposed that Gillard make a title claim for the shoe, which may take 20 years (a reference to the land claim process). The shoe was finally returned as a “gesture of goodwill”.

Incidentally Midas, the company that makes the shoe sold out of this model within hours.

All we can say to Ms. Gillard is that she watches her step from now on.
