Beauty pageant contested

A Canadian woman who was originally barred from the Miss Universe Canada Pageant because she was born a male has now been allowed to compete.

23 year old Jenna Talackova was disqualified after officials found out she underwent a sex change at age 19. The competition requires that contestants be naturally born female.

Her case made headlines before organisers decided to allow her to compete provided she meets “the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions.”

Talackova is now pursuing the organisers to drop its discriminatory rule.

It should be interesting to see what other rules will be challenged, now that it’s open season on the Miss Universe Pageant – an institution that is exclusionary by its very nature.
