It’s Friday the 13th and police in Hiroshima, Japan are telling people to lock their doors. A prisoner escaped from a penitentiary wearing nothing but white underwear.

Li Guolin, a Chinese national serving 23 years for attempted murder, apparently stripped off his prison garbs yesterday and used scaffolding erected by builders to jump the fence.

Li is extremely dangerous and shouldn’t be approached (half-naked or otherwise). A manhunt of 800 police officers has been launched.

We don’t mean to make the Japanese correctional system the butt of all jokes. After all, they’re so efficient that they hadn’t had a breakout in more than 20 years.

The bottom-line: we wish them good luck in their chase. Let’s hope they catch him briefly.
